sculptures by Lucien den Arend

polar construction, knee
Even though my father worked with wood all his life, it was Finland that
really opened my eyes to this material - it was the "kelo",* which
opened my eyes to the possibilities for my way of constructing sculptures
from the most elementary shapes - other kelo sculptures can be found on his
official
sculpture site.
*Kelo-wood is a standing dead tree, usually pine. The Kelo-pines in the
Arctic climate zone have a silver-gray patina on the surface, and the
heartwood is red. The darker the heartwood, the further north the pine has
grown.
