These steel sculptures are of the quality cor-ten which oxidizes to a certain extent. This layer of rust protects the material against further oxidation. The rugged appearance makes it possible to use chains for hoisting these sculptures. Stainless steel can not be handled with iron materials as it will contaminate the surface, causing the rust to  attach itself to the material, after which it should be properly removed.
